"Followup leads to BCPD chase of theft suspect" by: Mike Reddell

A 32-year-old man, who was accused of theft at Walmart, tried to flee from officers and led them in a car chase that ended up in his arrest on four different charges last week, Bay City Police said.
Branden Land, 32, was taken to the Matagorda County Jail and charged with assault on a peace officer, evading with a vehicle, resisting arrest, and theft of property, reports show.
Detectives Jerome Estrada and Aubree Navarro went to Wal-Mart, 4600 7th Street, to do a follow-up investigation Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 19.
While there, they were notified by an employee about a theft in progress.
Detectives found the male subject and confronted him, but he disobeyed the officers’ commands and left the location in his vehicle.

Estrada and Navarro pursued the vehicle into the TDECU parking lot, where the vehicle momentarily came to a stop.
Detectives attempted to conduct a felony takedown on
Land when the vehicle he was driving then reversed, striking Estrada’s truck.
Land then left the location, going west into town.
Detectives pursued the vehicle into town where Officer Alvarez and Fire Marshal Dan Shook engaged in the pursuit.
The vehicle pulled into the Mayfair Apartments where Land then exited and took off running on foot.
Officers were later able to arrest the driver within the complex.
