Markham gas leak contained

   The Matagorda County Office of Emergency Management announced that a natural gas leak was contained in Markham Wednesday, June 25.
  A mandatory evacuation was issued and later lifted for residents and businesses within a two-block radius of the leak site between Second Street and Third Street, south of FM 1468. 
  Residents were cleared to return to their homes and businesses.
Markham Elementary was opened as a temporary shelter.
  Emergency crews from CenterPoint Energy arrived on site and successfully contained the leak by 2:25 p.m.
CenterPoint Energy crews clamped off the leak near Markham RV Park, and resolved the immediate danger to the public, said Mitch Thames, Matagorda County Emergency Management public information officer.
“We want to thank the Markham Volunteer Fire Department for their swift action and coordination during this emergency,” said Bobby Seiferman, Matagorda County Judge. 
“Thanks to their efforts and the quick response from CenterPoint Energy, we were able to ensure the safety of our community.”
