The Matagorda County Democratic Party Executive Committee has elected Nora Dearing as their new chair.
Dearing did a prior stint as MCDP Chair from 2012-2016 and is stepping in to fill the unexpired term of Stephen Logan, who resigned due to personal reasons.
Dearing thanked the MCDP Executive Committee for “trusting me to guide our county party in building our strength to prepare for the 2023 and 2024 elections.”
Dearing was born and raised in Bay City and is a Bay City High School graduate.
She earned her undergraduate degree from The University of Houston-Victoria and taught school in Bay City ISD for 21 years.
She also taught at Wharton ISD before retiring in 2022.
Currently, she’s working as a long-term substitute teacher at BCISD.
Dearing served as chair of the MCDP from 2012-2016 and has served the MCDP as a precinct chair for several terms.
She entered Texas politics in the early 1990s as a volunteer for various local and statewide campaigns.
Dearing is married and has three adult sons and four grandchildren.
“We’re building for the future and we will do that by harnessing the tremendous energy at our grassroots, nurturing future party leaders, and working with precinct chairs, donors, activists, and allies who represent all our people and are accessible to all,” said Dearing.
“We want to build an infrastructure that elects and supports Democratic leaders up and down the ballot. Additionally, I pledge to lead the party to be the most transparent, accountable, inclusive, and unified Matagorda County Democratic Party we have ever seen.”
The MCDP’s next big event is on Nov. 9, at the Bay City Country Club.
The “Paint the Town Blue” fundraiser is from 6-9 p.m. There will be a buffet, cash bar, 50/50 raffle, silent auction, and award presentations.
The keynote speaker is Texas State Representative James Talarico, named a Texas Monthly Top-Ten Legislator in 2021.
Other candidates confirmed as of October 10th are Aaron Green for Matagorda County Sheriff, Steve Keough for U.S. Senate, and Randy Sarosdy for Texas Supreme Court Place 2.
