MRMC will host breast exam screening event Saturday, Oct. 5

   The OB/GYN Team at Matagorda Medical Group is hosting a Breast Exam Screening and Family Cancer Genetic Screening event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.
  “These screenings will help you know your risk for Breast Cancer, as well as other cancers,” reads the Matagorda Regional Medical Center (MRMC) press release.
  “Natera’s, Empower screening tool will be available on this day. Empower is a genetic test for those who want to know more about their risk of developing cancer, why it might be common in their family, or want to inform treatment options following a cancer diagnosis.”
  Empower screens for genes associated with increased risk for common hereditary cancers.
  The Empower multi-cancer panels include commonly screened-for genes associated with 12+ types of cancer.

  Most major insurance companies cover this testing, as well as self-pay and financial assistance, are available.
  The cost for testing is $249 for self-pay and those that do not qualify for financial assistance.
  “Our qualified team of OB/GYN specialists: LaDonna P. Rutledge, MD, Gregory A. Pappas, MD, and Meaghan White, FNP-BC will be available for all screenings,” reads the release.
  “If you should need a treatment plan, our team will guide you through your individualized options. You may also schedule your annual mammogram for Matagorda Regional Medical Centers (MRMC) October special of $100.”
  “If you attend this special event and appointments are closed for October, you will receive a voucher for this special pricing. Dr. Rutledge is ‘calling all ladies to get information and “Know Your Risk!’” the release adds.
  MRMC will have breast health information, fun trivia for women’s health, snacks, and giveaways available, along with breastfeeding and nutrition information from our local MRMC WIC Clinic.
