Police were called to shots fired at the 1800 block of Cypress Avenue at 4:22 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, and found a man dead, while Bay City Volunteer Fire Department was sent to the same address to fight a fire.
The Fire Marshal was the first arriving officer and identified that in addition to the shooting, the home was on fire.
The fire marshal called for Bay City Volunteer Fire Department’s response.
In addition, as officers were en route to investigate the shots fired, they could see smoke coming from a residence in the area and requested the fire department, police reports indicate.
The victim of the shooting, an adult male, was declared deceased, and the fire was extinguished within about 15 minutes.
Upon police officers’ arrival, requested investigators to make the scene.
Officers waited for detectives to arrive, and the scene was turned over to them.
The case involving the dead body remains under investigation, police said.
The case is still under investigation.
Arson was the cause of the fire at the Cypress address, said Fire Marshal Dan Shook.
The Fire Marshal worked with the Texas Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate the fire.
Through evidence collected, it was determined the fire was a set fire, arson.
The fire damage to the home has been estimated to be about $15,000.
The only injured person was the deceased, and it was not due to the fire.
The Bay City Fire Marshal’s Office is working with the Bay City Police Department as a joint investigation into the fire, since the two crimes appear to be related.
At this time, the incident is still being investigated, and a suspect has not yet been named.
