Report: Sargent breakwater bids have gone out

Bids have gone out for the Sargent Beach Breakwater and Jetty project that’s aimed at restoring the beach sand and preventing erosion.
Rhonda Gregg-Hirsh/ Project Director with Atkins has said that the Breakwater Project in Sargent has gone out for bid.
The project has been underway for years and permits were ready in 2022.
The breakwaters are planned to be 440 feet long, spaced 660 feet apart, in 4-foot depth of water and the angled terminal groin will be about 1,945 feet long and extends to an 8-foot depth of water.
Beach nourishment will follow the construction of the breakwater and terminal groin structures; subsequent nourishment efforts will occur as needed based on project monitoring results.
The project is a joint venture between the Texas General Land Office, Matagorda County, Atkins America, Inc., and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
