Two Matagorda County fire departments were among departments included in recent statewide Texas fire grant funding announcements.
The two county department were:
Sargent Area Volunteer Fire Department - $25,000 for PPE (personal protective equipment)
Van Vleck Volunteer Fire Department - $10,000 for training aids
Texas A&M Forest Service announced that volunteer fire departments across Texas will received new grant funding through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program (RVFDAP).
The funding is part of a statewide $14 million distribution to help departments purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) and training aids to improve firefighter safety and emergency response readiness.
This funding marks the third scheduled distribution of a historic $192 million legislative allocation, the largest single appropriation in the program’s history. These grants support requests for personal protective equipment and training aids, helping departments strengthen readiness and response capabilities across the state.
With this third round of funding, nearly $195 million has been distributed to volunteer fire departments since October 2025.
