Bay City Police officers chased and caught a Bay City man after he tried to escape on foot after he was told he was under arrest.
Sgt. Reyna Perez was dispatched to Walmart at 4600 7th Street about Mykle Randon, 39, of Bay City, who returned to the store after stealing hours earlier, at about 11 a.m. Sunday, July 13, reports show.
Police said Perez had prior knowledge that Randon had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for theft of property, with previous convictions.
Sgt. James Philp and Corporal Jose Soto arrived as backup officers.
Perez found Randon in the parking lot.
Upon advising him that he was under arrest for the outstanding warrant, Randon fled on foot. While fleeing, he was observed discarding items from his pockets.
After a brief foot pursuit and physical struggle, officers successfully took Randon into custody.
Officers recovered two different types of drugs that Randon had discarded.
Randon was transported to the Matagorda County Jail and booked in for the warrant, evading arrest and detention, resisting arrest, search, or transport, and possession of a controlled substance.
The Bay City Police Department commends the responding officers for their quick response and coordination in safely apprehending the suspect.
