"BCISD hears pool presentation from Trahan, Button" by: Jessica Shepard

Bay City ISD school board members heard a presentation – but took no action – on funding a possible pool project during a workshop meeting, Oct. 4.
Bay City ISD Athletic Director Warren Trahan and swim coach Bob Button gave their presentation for a new competition pool.
Price for the facility ranged from $12 million to $15 million with the site located at the high school campus.
Funding for the new pool would require a bond election May 2022 that would raise the debt service levy close to 50 cents per $100 housing valuation.
“The only way to build this is to ask in favor of a bond election,” said Trustee Matthew Murray.
“I’ll need definitive numbers and more detailed information before I can advocate for this – if at all.”
BCISD Superintendent Dr. Marshall Scott III is pursuing those details and will present them to the board later.
“We’ve been trying to get this before the board several times and it keeps getting kicked down the pipe,” said Button.
“We want to build this for BCISD and our kids,” added Trahan.
“We also want to start teaching third graders and up how to swim. We have the land and parking to use this every day and for every period if we want.”
Trahan added that he wanted to build what the district “needs.”
“We’re building this for work - not playtime,” he explained.
“We hope to build it in range to last a long time. All the athletes can use it and faculty can use it.
“We don’t need any partners or outside interests telling us how to do things. We don’t want too many hands in the pie,” said Trahan.
