Coach Robert Jones was greeted by an enthusiastic turnout at a reception welcoming him as the new Bay City ISD Athletic Director at BCHS gym Thursday, May 23.
Jones praised his players, coaches, faculty, family and fans at the reception and ended his remarks with a pledge to win the state title in 2024.
Jones is 2000 Bay City High School graduate, who succeeds his former coach Warren Trahan as Athletic Director.
A three-year varsity letterman in football, basketball and track at BCHS, Jones was named Most Athletic.
As a Blackcat running back, he was first team unanimous all district, 1998 and 1999 team captain, Oil Bowl All Star Game invitee, and 1998 state runner up.
Jones earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Texas A&M Kingsville, and was named to the all-conference football team in 2003 and 2004.
Jones has held coaching and teaching positions at Angleton, Brazosport and Bay City High School and has earned several notable awards.
Jones became head football coach and head track coach of the Blackcats in 2020-2021 school year.
Since becoming head coach, he has had successful seasons including playoff appearances in in three of four seasons.
As head track coach, his teams had runners compete at the district, area, regional and state level.
Jones believes in tradition, and takes pride in the motto started by Coach Warren Trahan: Blackcat Fight Never Dies.
He also believes that is always dis a Great Day to be a Blackcat.
