Two men were arrested in connection with stealing machinery from United Rentals on east 7th Street Saturday, Feb. 4, Bay City police said.
Officer Jeromy Washington was sent to United Rentals 5603 7th Street, on a theft in progress call at 1:47 a.m. Feb.4, reports show.
Dispatch was on the phone with the complainant who was watching the theft through live video feeds.
The complainant was able to provide a description of the suspects and vehicle.
While checking the area, Washington located the suspect vehicle, which was reported to have left the scene pulling a stolen welding machine.
Washington activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle.
The suspect vehicle refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued.
The chase started in Bay City and traveled through Van Vleck and West Columbia.
The suspect vehicle crashed in West Columbia and the driver attempted to flee on foot before being caught.
The driver was later identified as Jerry L. Doyle, 45 of Houston, police said.
The passenger surrendered and was identified as Meeno D. Fennel, 39, of Baytown, reports show.
Both subjects were transported to the Matagorda County Jail and charged with theft > $2,500 < $30k State Jail Felony and evading arrest with a vehicle.
