BCPD arrests woman for capital murder

Bay City arrested a 22-year-old woman on the charge of capital murder after she was transferred from Florida early last week, officers said.
Kalen Fortuna was arrested and booked for capital murder at the Matagorda County Jail Monday, Nov. 4, reports show.
Fortuna was held in Florida on unrelated charges and was brought to the jail by Police Sergeant Robert Pierce and Texas Ranger Tomas Cardenas.
The warrant was issued on Oct. 10, after BCPD detectives and a Texas Ranger developed enough probable cause after the year and a half investigation, reports show.
The warrant was based on events that happened on Tuesday, June 6, when officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Cypress about a house being on fire, police said.
When the officers arrived, they found a 27-year-old man dead with multiple gunshot wounds, reports show.

Every year, Bay City police detectives do house checks with the registered sex offenders who live within the City of Bay City.  They are making sure that the registered sex offenders are following the city ordinance requiring them to have a sign that is visible to trick-or-treaters that a sex offender lives at that specific residence.
The sign is required on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31.
Out of the eight registered sex offenders who live in the city, all eight were in compliance with the city ordinance.
