The Matagorda County Clerk’s office recently earned the 5-star Award.
Awarded by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS), the 5-star Award acknowledges Vital Statistics Partners who understand the importance of vital statistics and its impact on the citizens of Texas.
This award honors partners who go above and beyond the duties of birth and death registration by attending training and keeping up with the latest legislation and trends, DSHS said.
“I would like to commend my staff for their diligence and hard work in making this award for our office a possibility,” said County Clerk Stephanie Wurtz.
“In order to receive this award, the Matagorda County Clerk’s Office had to meet all criteria for Local Registrars in the areas of training, self-assessment, customer service, security and maintenance,” she added.
“This includes registering at least 96% of birth and death records in the Local Acceptance Queue (Matagorda County records) within one business day and maintaining an average completion percentage of 90% using the Remote Birth Access System (births outside of the county within the State of Texas).
“This award has great meaning to me as County Clerk and Local Registrar for Vital Statistics,” Wurtz said.
“To this day, our office continues to deal with daily challenges brought on by the pandemic, and certain requirements by other Texas entities, such as the Texas DPS requirement of a certified birth record to renew Drivers Licenses and IDs has us producing birth records to the public daily and at a record rate,” Wurtz pointed out.
“Throughout it all, my staff has remained dedicated and professional while serving the members of this community and I attribute the success of the vital statistics department and this award to them.”
