Commissioners unanimously approved a date change for HIF’s “Project Motion” tax abatement public hearing during a special meeting last week.
All commissioners were present for the meeting via Zoom.
The approval changes HIF’s hearing date to Monday, Feb. 5, due to the county holiday following the previous date – Monday, Jan. 15.
“When we previously entered in our dates and calculations for this project, we had not accounted for county holidays in 2024,” said Matagorda County Attorney Jennifer Chau.
“Monday, Jan. 15 is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the county will be closed. However, I’m more than open to discussing this if need be.”
Chau explained that while the county courthouse would be closed that day, commissioners could still meet for the public hearing.
“But, I reached out to HIF and they’re on board with moving the date and publishing the new one accordingly,” she added.
“If Hif has no problem with it, then I move to approve it,” said Matagorda County Judge Bobby Seiferman.
“I agree, if HIF has no problem then changing the date sounds good to me,” added Pct. 4 Commissioner Bubba Frick.
In another action, the court also unanimously approved a road use agreement with Peyton Creek Wind Farm II, LLC.
“This is for a project in Precinct 1 and last time the Port of Bay City Authority was considering endorsing this project, but needed to speak to Commissioner Bubba Cook first,” explained Seiferman.
“Now that they’ve done that, it’s back on the agenda for approval again, simple as that.”
