Matagorda County announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved an alternate project under the Public Assistance Grant for Hurricane Harvey.
This project will provide significant support to local law enforcement and volunteer fire departments by funding the purchase of new vehicles that will enhance public safety and emergency response capabilities across the county.
Under this alternate project, $1,687,651.97 has been approved for the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Department to purchase 13 new patrol vehicles.
These new units will strengthen the department’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies, ensuring that deputies are fully equipped to protect and serve the residents of Matagorda County.
In addition, $1,063,348.03 has been approved to support 12 Volunteer Fire Departments throughout Matagorda County, with each department receiving approximately $88,612.34 to acquire a new vehicle. Each department will contribute a 10% cost share toward their purchase, reinforcing the community’s shared commitment to safety and preparedness.

Markham VFD ($8,861.23 match)
Matagorda VFD ($8,861.23 match)

Van Vleck VFD ($8,861.23 match)
Palacios TPO VFD ($8,861.23 match)
Sargent VFD ($8,861.23 match)
Collegeport VFD ($8,861.23 match)
Wadsworth VFD ($8,861.23 match)
This accomplishment reflects the ongoing dedication of the Matagorda County Commissioners Court, whose leadership and commitment continue to enhance public safety and disaster preparedness throughout the county.
