Man, 40, faces several charges after accused of assaulting teen girl

A 40-year-old Bay City man was recently charged with possession of child pornography by Bay City police.
In addition to the possession of child pornography charge, Matthew A. Cannon also faces two additional charges of minor sexual conduct and indecency with a child sexual contact, police said.
The investigation of the case began when Sgt. James Philp met with a complainant who wanted to report the assault of her daughter.
Philp met with the complainant at the police department Oct. 19.
She was accompanied by the suspect who said he was ready to confess, reports show.
After speaking with the complainant, Philp contacted detectives and turned the case over to them.
During the investigation, investigators learned the complainant had found inappropriate texts between her 15-year-old daughter and the suspect who was a friend of the family.
Detective Kim Kunz met with the suspect and after he admitted to sending inappropriate texts, Kunz got a warrant for his arrest.
The case is still under investigation and anyone with information may contact Det. Kunz at BCPD.
