A 63-year-old Bay City man was killed in an Austin Street house fire Sunday morning, March 16, Fire Marshal Dan Shook said.
Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, Bay City Police Department, and the Bay City Fire Marshal were dispatched to the house fire at 1216 B Austin St. at about 07:40 a.m. Sunday, March 16.
The police officers were the first to arrive and discovered the house was heavily involved with smoke and fire, Shook said.
Neighbors who called in the fire said the resident, a 63-year-old male, was still inside.
The fire department arrived and started extinguishing the fire and rescue efforts, the fire marshal reported.
The resident was recovered already deceased, Shook said.
The fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes.
The loss is estimated to be about $50,000.
No one other than the resident were injured during the incident, Shook noted.
Because of the fatality, the fire marshal requested assistance from the Texas Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Bay City Fire Marshal and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
