Bay City Police Officer Tim Helton was sent to the 1000 block of Moore Avenue in reference to an assault at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.
Prior arriving, dispatch advised Helton the complainant’s brother was hit in the head with a gun.
Once on scene, Helton spoke with the 18-year-old male victim who said that while he was in the parking lot at Fit 4 Life, three Hispanic male subjects approached him with firearms and demanded money.
When the victim told them he didn’t have any money, they demanded his cell phone.
The victim refused to give up his phone and began to fight to get away, police said.
While fighting one of the suspects, he was struck in the head with a pistol. The victim was able to run inside Fit 4 Life and call for help.
He was cut on his head and taken to Matagorda Regional Hospital by private vehicle.
The victim was familiar with all three suspects and was able to provide their names to Helton.
Warrants were issued for all three suspects for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The suspects are Devin A. Vargas, 18, of Wharton, Dillon E. Vargas, 19, of Wharton, and Mario A. Rodriguez Jr., 18, of Bay City.
Susspects were last seen driving a white Dodge Dart displaying Texas license plate NDD5404.
