Rangers probe inmate’s death

A man arrested by Bay City Police and taken to the Matagorda County Jail Aug. 5 later died in the jail, the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Department reported last week.
Shortly after being placed in the jail, the man – no age nor name were given by the sheriff’s office - started showing signs of medical distress and was sent to Matagorda Regional Medical Center (MRMC) by ambulance.
The subject died while at the MRMC, the sheriff’s office said.
The Texas Rangers were called in to lead the investigation into the man’s death, according to sheriff’s office reports.
The Rangers will release further information when the investigation is complete, deputies said.
