A man accused of stealing eight packages of rib eye steaks from Walmart was pursued by Bay City police in a car chase all the way to Palacios Monday, Jan. 13.
The thief’s car ended up running out of gas on FM 521 and was taken into custody.
The suspect, Timothy Wright, 61, had 8 packages of rib eyes, valued at $267, in his possession, police said.
Wright was booked in the Matagorda County Jail for evading arrest/detention in a motor vehicle and theft of property <$2,500 2/more previous convictions.
Officer Glen Davis was dispatched to the Bay City Walmart, about a male subject shoplifting, at about 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, Police said.
Corporal Tyler Ramirez was in the area and observed the suspect’s vehicle, a white 2010 Nissan Frontier, in the parking lot of Walmart by the gas station.
Ramirez activated her emergency lights to get the vehicle to stop.
The vehicle did not stop and exited onto Texas 35.
Both Ramirez and Davis pursued the vehicle through town and went all the way to Palacios at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle went through several different fields around a residence, which turned out to be the suspect’s residence.
The vehicle eventually ran out of gas on FM 521.
