"Bay City sales tax rebates down from year ago" by: Mike Reddell

   Bay City September sales tax allocations were down 14.9% from the same month last year, while Palacios saw its rebates rise 16% over last year.
   Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar sent cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $925.1 million in local sales tax allocations for September, 20.9 percent more than in September 2020.
      These allocations are based on sales made in July by businesses that report tax monthly.
   Bay City’s September sales tax allocation was $545,039, down 14.9% from the $641,039 received for the same month last year.
   For the year, Bay City total allocations were $4,941,499, down 2.33% from the $5,059,497 in the same period in 2020.
   On the other hand, Palacios’ September sales tax rebates totaled $79,430, a 16.2% increase from the $68,332 rebate the city received for September 2020.
   For the year, Palacios’ allocations are $635,420, up 12.2% from the same period last year.
   September rebates in other area cities and their percentage comparison with last year’s rebate for the same month include:

  •     Angleton, $398,830, up 9.8%.
  •     Lake Jackson, $932,337, up 18.6%.
  •     West Columbia, $112,485, up 42%.
  •     Port Lavaca, $285,544, up 19%
  •     El Campo, $443,445, up 1%
  •     Wharton, $218,631, up 35.5%.
