With key players sidelined or playing hurt due to injuries, Tidehaven Head Coach David Lucio said the Tigers will count on younger players to step up.
The Tigers are coming off a 45-10 loss to Industrial last Friday, and will host Flatonia (2-2) this Friday.
The most prominent injury example is quarterback Logan Crow, who “strained something in his lower leg during the warm up,” Lucio said.
“We are not sure if he will be a go for the Flatonia game, but we will prepare as if he will not play,” the coach added.
“That along with the loss of Taylor Rickaway (starting DE and center) earlier in the week put us in a bind.
“We had to pull up a couple more sophomores from our JV, and I thought they performed well,” Lucio said.
The coach pointed out that half of Tidehaven’s starting positions are filled by sophomores.
“And then our kicker is also a sophomore,” he added.
“That being said, they held their own against a state-ranked team that plays a division above us,” Lucio said.
“Flatonia has a good team. They have suffered some injuries like us, and will be thin as far as depth.
“We will need a big time performance from our older players,” Lucio remarked.
“The youngin’s will have to grow up quickly for us to take care of business.
