New confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to show a downward trend, state health statistics showed Tuesday, Sept. 28.
In tracking cases over the previous 14 days, there were 283 new cases, the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) numbers show.
That’s a new infection, per-capita rate of 7.8 cases per 1,000 residents.
Last week, DSHS reported 377 new cases over the previous 14 days.
Matagorda County’s COVID-19 per capita numbers over the previous 14 days puts it lower than all neighboring counties – except for Jackson County.
Wharton’s per capita rate is 10 cases per 1,000 residents, Brazoria County’s rate is 8.3 and Calhoun County shows a 9.2 per capita rate.
Overall, Matagorda County has 4,896 confirmed cases, 968 probable cases, 144 deaths, 216 active cases and 5,551 recovered cases.
As of Sept. 23, 50.4% of Texas’ 29.1 million residents have been fully vaccinated.
In Matagorda County, that number is 40.3% of the residents are fully vaccinated.
