Matagorda County new confirmed Covid-19 cases and hospital admissions continue to drop.
“Yes, COVID-19 admissions are dropping,” said Tiffany Foltyn, spokesperson for Matagorda Regional Medical Center, in response to a question about COVID-19 admissions.
“We are currently averaging 10 or less COVID-19 positive patients total on our medical surgical unit and ICU,” Foltyn said.
A measure used by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) shows the dropping per capita percentage of new confirmed cases over the previous 14 days.
In Matagorda County, there were 144 new confirmed cases over the past 14 days, DSHS reported Tuesday, Oct. 5.
The per capita rate is 4 cases per 1,000 residents.
By comparison, DSHS data on Sept. 13 showed there were 490 new cases over the previous 14 days, and a per capita rate of 13.4 per 1,000.
In another measure showing the dropping cases, CDC reports 85 new cases over the past seven days Oct. 5.
That’s a significant decrease from CDC’s report of 234 new cases from the previous seven days on Sept. 20.
BCISD’s COVID-19 tracker, posted Sept. 30, shows eight students and four staff members testing positive.
The district’s tracker on Sept. 9 showed 48 students and seven staff members tested positive.
DSHS reported Oct. 5 that Matagorda County has 4,954 confirmed cases, 993 probable cases, 146 deaths, 139 active cases and 5,716 recovered.

That percentage continues to lag that of most neighboring counties.
