"Weekend offers wide variety of things to see, do" by: Jessica Shepard

Saturday is jam-packed with events this weekend.
There’s something for everyone including annual fundraisers and the Household Hazardous Waste collection day.
The annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection day is from 8 a.m. - noon Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds.
Electronic waste collection will be available on-site as well.
A limit of eight tires will be taken per household, but they cannot be tractor or semi-truck tires.
Baycel FCU is providing personal document paper shredding for free at the fairgrounds, too.
The Friends of the Bay City Library will be having their Fall Book Sale on Saturday, Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Bay City Library, 1100 Seventh Street.
There will be a large variety of hardback books, children’s books, paperbacks, DVDs, games, and puzzles which will be displayed on the porch and parking lot area.
Special collections will be featured in the Community Room including WWII books and antique books.
Matagorda Day will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Matagorda Volunteer Fire Department.
The event features a parade, fajita meal, vendor booths, live band, raffle, children’s activities, and a live auction.
There’s also a fajita cook-off and margarita contest.
Proceeds benefit the Matagorda Volunteer Fire department.
Bay City Parks and Recreation Department hosts a “Redneck Ramble” from 6-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Sports Complex, 2414 FM 3156.
The event is free and open to the public with live music from Layla’s Anthem and Lone Star Skynyrd.
There will be food trucks, a toilet seat toss, cornhole and redneck golf tournaments, and contests for the biggest hair and best mullet.
Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the night.
