"Pollard says Hurricane Nicholas debris collection finished" by: Mike Reddell

The Hurricane Nicholas debris collection is over, Precinct 2 Commissioner Kent Pollard announced at commissioners court regular meeting Monday, Nov. 1.
“We’re all done,” Pollard said, “County crews can go back to work that needs to be done.”
Precinct 3 Commissioner Troy Shimek said some debris piles are remaining in the Palacios area.
Pollard also talked about another Sargent area development - the Sargent Breakwater and Beach Nourishment Project.
Pollard explained tropical disturbances last year caused significant erosion of Mitchell’s Cut and a post-storm survey is needed to capture the changes.
The mouth of Mitchell’s Cut is at one end of the project area and the survey will add $5,350 to the project’s total cost.
   In other action, the court:

  •     Accepted terms of the right-of-entry agreement with TxDOT for a survey of Carl Park on FM 521 at Tres Palacios River.

TxDOT plans to replace the bridge and approaches.

  •    Allowed Precinct 4 Commissioner Bubba Frick to sign a road use agreement with Danish Field Solar to use Wind Road, Lezak Road, Baca Road, Hoffman Road, El Dorado (Oleander) Road, and Tom Cornelius Road, all with Precinct 4.

The agreement is necessary for Danish Field to evaluate easement for its solar farm.
Frick said the project is “win-win for the county.”

  •     Approved Environmental Health Department Director Lisa Krobot to hire Steven Knox as animal control officer at $13.50 an hour.
  •     Approved appointing Dr. Michael G. Neret as the Local Health Authority for Matagorda County. His term will run from Nov. 13, 2021, to Nov. 13, 2022.
  •     Approved a resolution declaring November as Home Care and Hospice Month in Matagorda County.
  •     Accepted a $5,000 contribution from LyondellBasell for expenses toward the Matagorda County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event that was held Oct. 9.
  •     Authorized the county to issue requests for proposals (RFP) for administrative services and requests for qualifications (RFQs) for professional services for the Texas Community Resiliency Program administered by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.

In the meeting’s comments section, County Clerk Stephanie Wurtz said that “just under 600” early votes were cast for the Nov. 2 constitutional amendment election and for two commissioner positions on the Port of Bay City Authority.
