COVID shows slight increase

While an uptick in COVID-19 cases has been reported statewide, there’s a slight indication of an increase in the disease in Matagorda County.
The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) noted that 262 cases in Texas were reported compared with the seven-day average a week ago.
Matagorda County’s per capita average is 0.7 cases per 1,000 people, with 24 cases in the last 14 days - .
Also, DSHS shows a slight increase in the number of deaths.
In the previous week’s report, the per capita was 0.5 cases per 1,000 and 19 cases in the previous 14 days.
The county’s total number of deaths is 158.
Bay City ISD’s COVID-19 tracker that was posted last Thursday, Nov. 11 shows one staff member testing positive, but no students.
Those fully vaccinated in Matagorda County accounts for 43.5% of the population, DSHS reports – a percentage number has held for the past several weeks.
As of Nov. 13, about 53.9% of Texas’ 29.1 million people have been fully vaccinated.
According to the Census Bureau’s 2019 Vintage population estimates, 93% of Texans are age 5 and older and thus eligible for a vaccine.
