"Festival of Trees opens Thursday" by: Jessica Shepard

The Matagorda County Museum is putting the final touches on its annual Christmas exhibit “Festival of Trees,” which debuts from 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, during "Christmas around the Square.”
“We have about 34 decorated trees this year,” said Museum Director Barbara Smith.
“About half of them are from new decorators and we’re very excited about them.”
The exhibit will be open to the public during regular museum business hours through Christmas.
“It will open Nov. 18 at ‘Christmas around the Square’ and there will be no charge on that night or Sunday, Nov. 21 from 1-5 p.m.,” said Smith.
“Regular days and times are Wednesday-Saturday from 1-4 p.m. Fees for those days are $4 per adult, $3 per seniors over age 50, and $2 for children ages three and up.
“Voting for this year’s ‘Viewer’s Choice’ tree will end on Saturday, Dec. 10,” she added.
Winners of the tree-trimming contest will be announced Wednesday, Dec. 15.
Winners will be awarded via categories including schools and daycares, clubs and organizations, and businesses and professionals.
“The museum would like to thank all the participants who decorated trees this year and shared their talents with the community,” said Smith.
