The Wharton County Junior College Foundation, in partnership with Wharton County Junior College, is proud to welcome Jonathan Jeter as the first WCJC Foundation Director.
Jeter joined the Foundation in late October, bringing his extensive background in non-profit management and a passion for promoting education.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston School of Law.
“I’m excited to join the Wharton County Junior College Foundation and I am looking forward to working with the [Foundation’s] Board of Directors and College leadership to help the Foundation realize its potential,” Jeter said. “There are so many opportunities for us to impact the lives of students in Wharton County and our entire service area. We can really change lives with our work and that is what we intend to do.”
A partnership between the College and the Foundation was developed to create the role of the Foundation Director.
This new leadership position will provide focused attention to growing of the Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is focused on promoting awareness of the College and supporting WCJC students, faculty, and programs. “Our vision is to take the Foundation’s ability to support students to a whole new level,” said Gordon Sorrel, who serves as the president of the WCJC Foundation Board of Directors.
“The combination of Mr. Jeter’s experience and his enthusiasm is exactly what we were looking for in our first Director.
“This is a fresh start to a new chapter for the Foundation. We know he will be instrumental at opening new doors for thousands of students.” Jeter will maintain a WCJC Foundation Office on the Wharton campus, located inside the J.M. Hodges Library.
This central location will provide for a base of operations on the College’s home campus, though he will also frequently visit other campuses to engage with members of communities throughout the service area.
“This continued partnership will benefit not only the College and our students, but every community we serve,” said Wharton County Junior College President Betty McCrohan.
“We are proud to be taking this positive step to increase our ability to support students, especially in a time of such great need.”
The Foundation will be launching a new website, with a new logo and social media accounts in the coming months to boost community engagement. The organization will also be seeking to build relationships.
