"New COVID-19 cases show little movement " by: Mike Reddell

Matagorda County still shows little increase in new confirmed COVID-19 cases, while the state indicates that new confirmed cases and vaccine doses are slightly higher.
While a few weeks ago, the State Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported that new confirmed cases, vaccine doses administered, COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths had decreased.
Those charts now show higher new confirmed cases and vaccine doses.
State officials continue to ask Texans to stay vigilant over the holiday season, as officials study the progress and severity of the new omicron variant.
In Matagorda County, there have been 33 new confirmed cases over the past 14 days for a per capita rate of 0.9% per 1,000 residents.
The county has registered 160 deaths from the disease.
Statewide, 18.5 million people have received at least one dose, or 63.3% of Texas’ population, while 54.3% are fully vaccinated.
In Matagorda County 43.9% are fully vaccinated – a percentage that has remained the same over several weeks - and 51.2% have received at least one dose.
Calhoun County has 52.5% of its population fully vaccinated, while Brazoria County is at 53.7% and Wharton is 47%.
The CDC now recommends that everyone ages 18 and older get a COVID-19 booster shot.
Bay City ISD was closed last week for Thanksgiving and its COVID-19 tracker shows no positive test outcomes.
