Van Vleck ISD trustees were recognized for their work for the district as part of the regular board meeting, Monday, Jan. 10.
“January is the Texas Association of School Boards month for recognizing our board members,” explained VVISD Superintendent John O’Brien.
“All of our trustees are awarded on behalf of their dedication to our district and recognized for the work they do on behalf of our community.”
January 2022 is officially designated as “School Board Recognition Month,” according to a proclamation issued by Gov. Greg Abbott.
Van Vleck Athletic Director Rodney Dowell presented a $3,000 check on behalf of the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) to Seth Trevino and his family.
“Most of you may know that we had a medical incident last year when seventh-grade football player Seth Trevino collapsed on the field,” explained Dowell.
“I can’t say enough about how grateful I am for our coaches, nurses, and administrators that were on hand that day.”
The check was made possible by funds from the THSCA “Our Day to Shine Program” campaign.
“This check is to help cover any outstanding medical bills or any other hardships from that day,” he added.
Also, board members approved the financial audit report ending, August 31, 2021.
“The audit was performed successfully,” said Wade Whitlow, KM&L, LLC partner.
“We’re issuing a letter with an unmodified opinion on our results – which means a clean audit for the district.”
He added that there were no deficiencies in internal controls.
“I have to give a big credit to Gayle Blackmon and her staff,” said Whitlow.
“They work in an efficient and effective matter to make performing an audit successful.”
