"BCISD, MRMC tracking shows new COVID-19 cases" by: Mike Reddell

A total of 37 Bay City ISD students and employees tested positive for COVID-19 last week and MRMC is seeing 45 new COVID-19 cases per day.
Those two situations are among the latest incidents showing how fast new COVID-19 cases are growing in Matagorda County.
There were 27 students and 10 employees who tested positive for the virus, according to Bay City ISD’s COVID-19 Tracker that was posted last Thursday, Jan. 13.
BCISD has 3,505 students and 562 employees, the tracker shows.
“Currently there are 21 patients in the hospital with COVID-19,” MRMC Spokesman Tiffany Foltyn said Monday, Jan. 17.
“We continue to see an increased number of patients presenting for testing, as well as many testing positive for COVID-19,” Foltyn said.
“In the past 17 days of January, Matagorda County is averaging 45 new COVID-19 cases per day.”
Another significant indicator is the new confirmed and probable cases in the last two weeks that’s reported by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
Matagorda County’s per capita rate shows 19.1 new cases per 1,000 residents, with 691 new cases in the past 14 days.
In neighboring Brazoria County, there are 31.6 new cases per 1,000 people, with 11,770 new cases confirmed over the past 14 days, DSHS data shows.
While 57.2% of Texans are fully vaccinated, Matagorda County has 45.9% of its 36,255 population fully vaccinated and 14.4% have received booster shots, DSHS reported.
