The number of BCISD students testing positive for COVID-19 jumped to 68 last week from 27 the week before.
The district’s COVID-19 tracker that was posted Thursday, also shows the number of BCISD employees testing positive at 13, up from 10 the previous posting.
Meanwhile, MRMC admissions for the virus are lower than last week.
“Currently we have 10 patients admitted with COVID-19,” said MRMC Spokesman Tiffany Foltyn.
“That number is down from the previous week,” she added.
“Matagorda County is averaging 35 new COVID-19 cases per day in the past seven days,” Foltyn noted.
Matagorda County’s per capita rate has remained about the same with 19 cases per 1,000 residents, compared to 19.1% the week before, the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported.
There have been 689 new cases in Matagorda County over the past 14 days, DSHS reported Tuesday, Jan. 25.
That number is down slightly from 691 new cases reported a week earlier.
Matagorda County has 168 deaths from COVID-19.
In Wharton County, the per capita rate is 18.6 deaths per 1,000, with 775 new cases over the previous 14 days.
Calhoun County jumped to 39.5 new cases per 1,000, with 795 new cases over the previous 14 days.
Brazoria County’s per capita rate is 24.4 per 1,000 with 9,070 over the last 14 days.
A total of 16.8 million Texans, or 57.7% are fully vaccinated and 5.7 million people, or 19.6% have received booster shots.
In Matagorda County, 46.3%, or 16,778 residents, of the population of 36,255 is fully vaccinated and 15.2%, or 5,522 people, have gotten booster shots.
