The Main Street board unanimously approved adding two new members to their ranks during their regular monthly meeting.
Jennifer Bishop and Justin Rhodes were approved with brief introductions made to the board Wednesday, Jan. 12.
Bishop was already a member of the Historic Commission board that was recently folded back into Main Street’s board.
Rhodes is new to Bay City and is with State Farm.
Historic Commission board member Scott Peden was considered for approval, but was tabled until he could be present at a future meeting.
In the past, board positions had to be approved by city council.
Those interested in joining the board can fill out the volunteer form online to let the City Council know of their interest and qualifications for the board or commission they wish to join.
“You are encouraged to contact the mayor concerning your nomination,” said the city’s website.
“You may also submit a resume or brief background information regarding your qualifications.”
The form stays on file for two years in the City Secretary’s office.
Main Street board member Joan Myers was unanimously appointed as secretary of the board.
“It’s not a hard job,” said Main Street Program Executive Director Tina Israel.
“If you’re not able to take notes for a meeting or miss a meeting, I’ll take notes for the record.”
“In that case I would love to be the secretary,” Myers told the board.
Israel is also planning board training for some time in March.
“Freeport is starting their own Main Street Program and the Texas Historic Commission will be down for training them,” she explained.
“I thought it would foster good relations and provide us a chance to review our role for Bay City, too. We’ll get a room at the Civic Center and spend a few hours refreshing ourselves then.”
