"BCCDC updates bylaws for board" by: Jessica Shepard

Bay City Community Development Corporation board unanimously approved amending bylaws for board members living within the City of Bay City limits as part of its regular meeting, Monday, Jan. 31.
Board members present included Becca Sitz, Jason Childers, Floyce Brown, Jeanette Bell, Erik Frankson, and Jill Cornelius for the meeting.
“Previously, board members had to live within the city limits to volunteer to serve on this board,” said BCCDC Executive Director Jessica Russell.
“When I reviewed the Texas Local Government Code Section 505.052, it said that board members had to live within a 10-mile boundary from a municipality’s limits. So, we were stricter on ourselves than the state.”
“We’ve had two vacancies on this board for some time and our old way was limiting filling those seats. I just need a bigger pool of possible board members to approach and pick from,” she added.
“Well, you certainly don’t want to restrict yourself more than you need to,” said BCCDC Board Vice President Jason Childers.
“I really see this paying forward over time.”
Also, BCCDC board members unanimously approved six façade grants and one website grant during their meeting.
Vallarta Mexican Grill was approved for $5,000 for each of its website and façade grants respectively.
Vallarta is at 4701 Seventh St. in Bay City – the former Applebee’s restaurant building.
The website grant covers software suite licensing, website support, and design needs along with digital signage and more.
The façade grant is being used to pay part of the $20,957 cost for property improvements, including building and street signage along with lighting and installation of the signs.
“This is a really great business filling an empty space on a main thoroughfare through our city,” Russell commented.
“Their designs for new signage look great on the street and I fully support both of these grants. They’re really investing in their business here.”
Vallarta was previously located at Columbia Lakes in Brazoria County and had researched properties in Alvin before choosing Bay City.
The business shared on its Facebook page that the grand opening was “close” and that it is taking applications for hosts, waitresses, cooks, and more.
“I look forward to trying their food,” added Russell.
“I’m definitely a queso girl, so, I hope it’s delicious.”
Other façade grants were given to:

  •     $5,000 to SF Investment Properties, LLC for outside work including replacing wood, power washing, and painting its building.
  •     $5,000 to Matagorda Veterinary Clinic’s Dr. Lucy Pustejovsky to install a new LED monument-structured sign to match the new facility being built.
  •     $5,000 to Greg Crain for an asphalt hot mix to repave his parking lot.
  •     $3,760 to Steve Sieben for removing old shingles and fascia board then installing new shingles and fascia board on his building.
  •     $5,000 for Baywash car wash to replace current signage and install a monument sign at its entrance.

“I fully support all of these applications,” added Russell.
“We’ll do almost anything to help our businesses and make our thoroughfares look better, too.”
