COVID-19 cases in Matagorda County show a downward trend, but the virus still has a significant presence.
“Matagorda County averaged 20 new COVID-19 cases per day over the past seven days,” said MRMC Spokesperson Tiffany Foltyn.
“Currently, there are seven COVID-19 patients in the hospital,” she added.
BCISD’s COVID-19 tracker – posted Feb. 3 - shows 43 students tested positive for the virus, while five staff members tested positive.
The county’s per capita rate of new confirmed cases is 10.7 per 1,000 residents, with 388 cases reported over the last 14 days, the Department of State Health Services reported Tuesday, Feb. 8.
Matagorda County has 170 deaths from COVID-19, DSHS reports.
Statewide, Texas hospitalizations and average new cases are declining, but COVID-19 deaths remain the same, the Texas Tribune reported Tuesday.
DSHS reports that 58.3% of Texans are fully vaccinated and 69% have received at least one dose.
In Matagorda County, 46.6% percent, or 16,907 residents, are fully vaccinated.
