Library adds Wi-Fi Hotspot lending program

Bay City Public Library is adding a Wi-Fi HotSpot Lending pilot program that allows customers to check out active Wi-Fi hotspots that provide mobile access to the internet.
“We know citizens are in need of access to the internet,” said Library Director Samantha Denbow.
“This service expands upon our free 24/7 Wi-Fi at the library and allows patrons to literally bring the internet home with them.”
Digital inclusion is a strategic goal for the library.
The Wi-Fi HotSpot Lending pilot program:

  •     Supports students and their parents by providing access to educational resources
  •     Supports job seekers by providing access to employment information and resources
  •     Bridges the digital divide in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods.

The library will have five hotspots available to check out for a two-week period.
They can be reserved, but not renewed, and the hotspots run off the ATT 5G network.
Overdue hotspots will have their internet service disabled and a $5 per day late fee will be assessed.
