A longtime Matagorda County Baptist preacher was killed and four people were hurt in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of County Road (CR) 259 and Texas 60 in Matagorda Sunday, July 17, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates at about 2:15 p.m. Sunday, July 17, a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on Texas 60.
A 2003 Chrysler Town Car was traveling westbound on CR 259, and failed to stop at its intersection with Texas 60, and was struck by the Chevrolet pickup truck, DPS Sergeant Stephen Woodard reported.
The driver of the Chrysler, Howard Harper, 75, of Markham, was pronounced dead on the scene by Matagorda County Justice of the Peace Mark Finlay.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Mario Herrera, 36, of Del Valle, was taken to Memorial Herman and treated for his injuries.
The passengers in the Chevrolet, Maribel Herrera, 40, of Del Valle, a 16-year-old female, a 12-year-old male and a 6-year-old male were all transported to Memorial Herman – Houston and treated for their injuries, Woodard reported.
This is an ongoing investigation, and there is no additional information available for release at this time.
