Tidehaven fell to Goliad 34-27 despite nearly 250 yards rushing from Tiger Joseph Dodds in a Friday, Aug. 26, game that was moved from Goliad to Tidehaven.
“We played a good Goliad team that will probably win some playoff games in 3A Division 1 this year,” said Tidehaven Head Coach David Lucio.
“That being said, when we were fresh we dominated,” the coach added.
“We started getting hit with cramps early in the game, starting with Dodds.
“He had close to 250 yards of rushing and return yards by the end of the first quarter.
“It was a very hot and humid night, which caused a lot of our two-way players to run into hydration issues,” Lucio said.
“Once we can get to a point where we can play like we did early in this game through four quarters we are going to be a hard team to beat.
“I was proud of how our kids battled through so many issues.
“It’s never fun to lose, but I like our outlook from here on.
The Tigers will play Odem this Friday, Sept. 2, in Odem, the coach noted.
“Look for the Tigers to rebound from this loss in a big way,” he said.
For the game, the Tigers had 290 yards rushing and 80 yards passing.
Dodds had three touchdowns – two rushing and one return score.
Quarterback Kale Russell was 6-3 for 54 yards, with a touchdown, and an interception.
Russell had seven carries for 37 yards.
Jachen Duran was 5-1 for 26 yards and an interception.
He also had six carries for 36 yards.
Tiger Ti’Shaun Davis caught three passes for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Ashton Galvan caught one for 14 yards.
Kicker Alex Cisneros had three PATs.
