"Tidehaven begins district play with win over Rice" by: Mike Reddell

Tidehaven began District 14-3A-2 play with a convincing 42-21 win over Rice Consolidated at home Friday, Sept. 23.
Tidehaven (3-2, 1-0) joins Boling and Van Vleck atop the district standings.
“We had a number of starters out due to some injuries,” said Head Tiger Coach David Lucio.
That injury list included standout running back Joseph Dodds, who had 46 yards on six carries.
“Dodds played, but he was extremely limited due to a nagging injury.
“We may sit him this week just to allow him to fully recover this week and through our bye week,” Lucio added.
“Our offense is pretty salty, with a healthy Dodds.
“I don’t think there are many 3A teams that can stop it,” Lucio remarked.
“We play a winless East Bernard team (0-4) this week, but don’t let their record fool you.
“They’ve played a tough schedule and with an extra week to prepare for us due to their bye being this past week, they will be tough to handle.
“We should have a couple of more players back this week, so we look forward to trying to go into our bye week 2-0 in district,” the coach noted.
The Tigers had 360 yards total offense – 250 yards rushing and 160 yards passing.
Rice had 122 yards rushing and 200 yards passing.
Tiger quarterback Kale Russell lead all Tidehaven rushers with 103 yards on 12 carries against Rice.
Russell scored on two touchdown runs.
Russell also was 8 or 11 for 160 yards passing with three touchdowns and an interception.
Jacob Martinez had 72 yards on 16 carries including a touchdown.
Ti’Shaun Davis was the Tigers leading receiver with two catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Jachan Duran had three receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Ashton Galvan also had a touchdown and caught two passes for seven yards and Connor Claxton had a 12-yard catch.
Kickoff for the Tiger-East Bernard game will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at East Bernard.
