A suspect in the murder of Lakienta Smith of Bay City was arrested by a Dallas-Fort Worth area task force April 4, Bay City police said.
Robby L. Williams, 45, of Bay City, is the suspect in the murder, police here said.
Lakienta Smith was murdered on Saturday, April 1, in the 3200 block of JP Davis, police report.
Williams’ arrest was a combined effort between several agencies, Bay City police said.
Bay City Police detectives have been working closely with Texas Rangers, as well as the fugitive apprehension task force from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Through their combined efforts they were able to identify Williams as the suspect, get a warrant issued for his arrest and send out the information to agencies where Williams was believed to be staying, police said.
The suspect was apprehended without incident and taken to a Dallas-Fort Worth area jail on a murder warrant until he can be transported to Matagorda County.
Police were sent to 3200 block of JP Davis Avenue in reference to a 911 hangup on Saturday, April 1, shortly before 4:30 p.m.
Before arriving, police dispatch advised they made contact with someone after attempting to call the 911 hangup number back.
The person they spoke to said there was a disturbance at that address before hanging up again.
When officers arrived, they found what appeared to be blood in the area. They checked the area and were unable to locate a victim or anyone else at the location, reports show.
While on scene, information was received that someone had possibly been killed at that location and a suspect may have driven off in a black Mitsubishi, reports show.
Dispatch notified Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office of the possible homicide and to be on the lookout for the possible suspect vehicle. Detectives were notified and the scene was turned over to them.
Meanwhile, officers continued looking for a victim.
At about 5 p.m. Sunday, April 2, Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a deceased person in the area of FM 2611 and County Road 275.
Deputies went there and found the deceased.
Through further investigation it was determined this was the victim from the residence at JP Davis, police said.
