There were five near-drownings and a capsized boat with two more near-drownings at Matagorda Beach Saturday, May 6, Matagorda Fire and Rescue reported.
Two Matagorda firefighters were injured in trying to rescue people from the mouth of the Colorado River, Precinct 2 Commissioner Mike Estlinbaum told Commissioners Court Monday, May 8.

sions for your kids and yourself in getting out in the surf,” Estlinbaum added.
“Please know your water and what to do if you cannot get back in,” Matagorda Fire and Rescue posted on Facebook Saturday.
“The undertow is relentless for the strongest swimmers!”
The organization also emphasized life vests are provided at the beach.
