Shark fisherman is bitten by catch after landing it on Matagorda Beach

An adult male shark fishing was bitten on Matagorda Beach after catching a small to medium size shark and landing it on the beach Sunday, May 21, Matagorda County Sheriff’s deputies reported.
The man was measuring the shark and the shark moved its head backwards and bit the male on the hand, deputies said.
“The index finger was sliced open to the bone and there were some bite damage to possibly the thumb and one other finger,” said Lt. James Orr.
“To my knowledge, the male’s entire hand was not damaged to the point of losing it.”
The man was taken to Jetty Park and met with EMS personnel, Orr said.
A Deputy was on patrol in the area and went to Jetty Park to assist.
EMS contacted Life Flight and the male was flown to Memorial Hermann in Houston.
