A 70-year-old Matagorda man drowned in the Colorado River off his pier Thursday night, June 15, the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Deputies were sent to Riverbend Road at about 9:30 p.m. after the department received a call about a “deceased person in the Colorado River,” according to a Sheriff’s department press release Monday, June 19.
An investigation was conducted and the deceased person was identified as 70-year-old David Belcik from Matagorda, deputies said.
The investigation determined that the man was last seen on his pier around 9 p.m. June 15 and at some point fell into the water and drowned.
At this time no foul play is suspected, the department said.
