An inmate at the Matagorda County Jail committed suicide by hanging himself Aug. 26, the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office reported in a press release Sept. 12.
Upon discovery of the inmate, life saving measures were initiated and the inmate was transported to Matagorda Regional Medical Center where life saving measures continued, the sheriff’s office said.
Unfortunately the life saving measures were unsuccessful and the inmate was pronounced dead, the report showed.

Family of the inmate have been spoken to several times by Matagorda County investigators explaining exactly what happened.
There is no evidence of any foul play involved and the investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
The Fort Bend County Medical Examiner conducted the autopsy and has not made an official ruling at the time of this release.
