Start the Thanksgiving holidays a bit early by joining the Bay City Parks and Recreation Department for a “Turkey Trot through the Wilderness” this Saturday, Nov. 18.
The Turkey Trot is a 2K and/or 5K walk/run starting at 9:30 a.m. for the 2k and 10:15 a.m. for the 5K – both trots are at Riverside Park, 7330 FM 2668 in Bay City.
This is an event the whole family can enjoy.
“Make the run or walk a family tradition by bringing the strollers and of course friendly dogs on a leash are welcome!” said Interim Director of Parks and Recreation Kelly Penewitt in a press release.
“If you love to dress up for races, we encourage you to do so! Take pictures and share on social media and share with us at parks-rec@cityofbaycity.org.”
Age divisions include 3-12 years, 13-17 years, adults, and seniors ages 55 and over.
If your child is under the age of 3, you do not need to register them as a participant unless you want them to receive a shirt and medal.
Awards will be given out for the overall top three finishers in each run, for the top three of each age group in the 5K, and for the best costume.
Those participating in both races will not be eligible for an award in the 2K and will receive only one shirt and medal.
Pre-registration race fees vary by age as follows: $30 for children ages 12 and under for the 2K; $35 for children ages 13 through adults for either the 2K or 5K; $40 for those wanting to participate in both races and $5 for seniors and active or retired military participants.
The day of the race sees those prices increase by $5 for everyone but seniors or military participants.
Fees include a bag, medal, and shirt.
