Officer’s car rear ended by drunk driver   

Policeman Tim Helton patrol car was rear ended in the 4900 Block of Avenue F Sunday, Nov. 12, shortly after 4 a.m.
   Helton was on patrol when he notified dispatch that his unit was struck by another vehicle.
   Upon arrival of other officers, it was determined that Helton was not injured.
   There was damage on the back of the vehicle near the passenger side tail light.
   It was struck by a white 2000 Ford pickup, bearing Texas registration RSZ3248. 
   The driver of that vehicle was identified as Kyle L. Novak, 30 of Wadsworth. 
   Novak admitted to consuming several alcoholic beverages prior to the incident. 
   After performing poorly on administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, Novak was placed in custody for Driving While Intoxicated.
   Incident to arrest, officers located a pistol in the driver door.
   Novak was later transported to the Matagorda County Jail where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.
   Novak was released to the jail staff without further incident.   

Detectives check sex offenders homes

   Detectives Aubree Navarro and RichardMorales did an annual check on homes of registered sex offenders on Monday, Oct. 30 and 31.. 
   The check was to ensure registered sex offenders complied with city ordinance 87-3.
   City Ordinance 87-3 states that a registered sex offender shall on each Oct. 30 and 31, between the hours of 1 and 11:59 p.m., display a sign with at least two-inch lettering on all accessible exterior doors of their residence, as well as posting a sign with at least two-inch lettering along the sidewalk leading to the front door of the residence, stating “Sex Offender’s Residence.”
   On Oct. 30, detectives went to the residences of 13 sex offenders.
   All but two complied. 
   Navarro issued citations to both offenders.
   Detectives checked all 13 residences again Oct. 31. 
   This time only one offender was not in compliance. 
   That offender was issued another citation for violating the ordinance. 
   It should be noted that each citation is subject to a fine up to
   $2,000.

Wharton man under $1M bond for murder

   Larry Henderson Jr., 46 years old, from Waxahachie, Texas, was found shot to death at Milberger Turf Farm on Bucks Bayou Rd on Sept. 5, according to the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office.   
   After an extensive investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers, Richard Ardell Allen, 44 years old, from Wharton, was arrestedon Oct. 30, by the U.S. Marshals in Wharton, Texas for the Henderson murder.
    Richard Allen is currently in the Matagorda County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond, the sheriff’s office records show.  
   The investigation is still ongoing.
