This year, Christmas Eve falls on Sunday, Dec. 24, and Christmas Day is Monday, Dec. 25.
That means that many local businesses are closed in observance of the holiday starting Friday, Dec. 22, and will re-open at regular business hours Tuesday, Dec. 26.
The United States Post Office and banks will be closed on Monday in observance of Christmas Day.
Matagorda County courthouse is open regular hours Friday, Dec. 22, closed Monday-Tuesday Dec. 25-26, and re-opens to normal business hours on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
The City of Bay City, Bay City Public Library, and City Hall will be closed Friday-Monday Dec. 22-25 and re-open on Tuesday, Dec. 26, at normal hours.
Bay City ISD students have Christmas Break until regular hours on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Christmas break lasts until Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Tidehaven ISD, with the districts returning to regular hours on Thursday, Jan. 4.
Van Vleck ISD students have Christmas break until Friday, Jan. 5, with classes resuming on Monday, Jan. 8.
The Bay City Sentinel office will be closed for Christmas observance starting Thursday-Monday, Dec. 21-25 but resume regular hours Tuesday, Dec. 26.
