Ganado man dies in wreck near Markham

A 23-year-old Ganado man was killed in a two-car collision at the intersection of Texas 35 and FM 1468 at Markham early Monday morning, Jan. 22, DPS Sgt. Stephen Woodard said.
Two vehicles were involved: a 2017 Mustang driven by Aaron Lenhart, 23, of Ganado, and a 2017 Chevrolet 3500 pickup truck operated by Gabriel Forcado, 20, of Bay City, Woodard said.
The pickup was traveling west on Texas 35 and the driver disregarded the red signal light and struck the Mustang that was turning left off FM 1468 on a green light, the trooper explained.
Lenhart died at the scene, Woodard said.
The truck kept going after the impact and drove 100 yards before coming to a rest in a ditch.
The truck struck a light control box after hitting the Mustang, Woodard added.
The accident occurred at 5:20 a.m. Monday and Woodard said DPS was called out to investigate at 6 a.m.
DPS reviewed video from the nearby gas station and convenience store that showed the Chevy disregarded the red light and struck the Mustang.
Forcado was not injured in the wreck, Woodard said.
Forcado was issued a citation for disregarding a red signal light, Woodard reported.
