The Matagorda County Fair & Livestock Association (MCFLA) is celebrating 80 years of livestock shows, entertainment, rodeos, and scholarships in service to the Matagorda community with its “Ruby Red Rodeo” theme.
The celebration will begin with the Halter Heifer/Longhorn Show starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 followed by events every weekend until “Fair Week” officially begins on Friday, Feb. 23.
Those events include the annual royalty pageant, ranch rodeo, academic rodeo, BBQ Cook-off and concert, commercial heifer show & auction, home economics dessert auction, talent & public speaking contest, agriculture mechanics show, rabbit show, home economics craft show, poultry show, senior citizens craft show and luncheon, coloring contest, lamb & goat show, Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Rodeo for three nights, carnival and midway games, swine show, steer show, Jr. Livestock Auction and much more.
New fair features this year are:
- BBQ Cook-Off & Concert: This year’s BBQ Cook-off is sanctioned through Champions Barbecue Alliance (CBA). Entry forms can be found on the MCFLA website and teams can register until noon on Friday, Feb. 23. Friday night will also have an “Outdoor Concert” featuring Layla’s Anthem and ReWind Texas. The entrance fee to the cook-off and concert is $10. VIP Tables are also available by contacting the Fair Office at 979-245-2454.
- Carnival Coupons: $20 for an all-day wristband good for one day of the carnival rides. This discounted coupon is available at the Fair Office until Thursday, Feb. 22.
- Fair Support signs return: For a $25 donation, show your support for the fair and remind your neighbors how they can support Matagorda County youth. Sponsorship opportunities remain available and are a perfect way for businesses and families to continue to support local youth.
